INTRODUCTION
The compilation entitled "Remarkable veterinarians in artistic presentations" has come into being as a continuation of the selection of photographs from the archives of the Veterinary Science Library entitled "Festive days, remarkable persons". János Mészáros M collected the pieces of art (paintings, statues, monuments, memorial tablets) showing the outstanding figures of the history of veterinary training and practice. In his text he reports the reader about their creation, the artists, the circumstances of their unveiling, etc. which was supplemented by digital photos of the artefacts. The pieces of art in the countryside were reproduced and sent by veterinarians working nearby. Their names can be found as the photographer, and we want to express our special thanks for their grateful help.
When and by whom was a portrait, a memorial made? It is a frequently recurring question which is not at all easy to answer, though there are many pieces the creators of which are outstanding artists. János Mészáros M. has been working hard to find the artistic monuments and the details of their creation, inauguration with the intention of making this invaluable material public.
His efforts met luckily with the ideas of the Veterinary Science Library, having already started the collection of photographs, and the library was happy to get involved in the enrichment of the digital pantheon.
As a matter of fact, the collection is always growing proving the fact that veterinarians pay special attention to the work of their great predecessors, and fosters their memory with due respect.
It is also growing in the sense that János Mészáros M. has already prepared the collection of plaquettes with portraits on them by which we will supplement our collection next year. Other genres like stamps, ex librises are also not excluded.
