Lajos Mitterpacher (1734-1814), Jesuit abbot, first professor of agriculture in the University of Buda in Hungary. His work of great importance, entitled "Elementa rei rusticae in usum academiarum regni Hungariae conscripta, Budae 1779-1794" was written in Latin in three volumes with a part on veterinary science. He and Sándor Tolnay intervened for the saving of the Department for Veterinary Science existing in Pest in 1796. Lajos Mitterpacher's bronzed bust, created by Ödön Takács in 1962, can be seen in the vestibule of the Museum of Agriculture. (MMJ)
