Gyula Sályi (1903-1982) was a veterinary doctor, a Kossuth-prize winner professor, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department for Pathology (1941-1965), dean of the College of Veterinary Science (1950-1951), director then rector from 1958 to 1963.
The bronze bust of professor Sályi, creation of Béla Domonkos sculptor was inaugurated on the 17th of October, 2003 in the park in front of his department as part of the National Veterinary Day's programs. Before the inauguration Professor Andor Kardeván delivered a memorial lecture entitled: Professor Sályi was born a hundred years ago. The inauguration speech was given by Professor Ferenc Vetési, in which he remembered his late professor and master in a lyric note and appreciated the artistic presentation. (MMJ)
