József Marek (1868-1952) was a veterinary doctor, PhD, ordinary and honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department and Clinic of Internal Medicine from 1901 to 1935.
The Komárom County Animal Health tation, and the Town Council of Komárom and the local committee of the Patriotic People's Front in Komárom raised a relief to commemorate József Marek, professor of veterinary science, world-famous master of the veterinarian internal medicine. The relief, created by Walter Madarassy, was graved from Süttő chalk. It was placed in the wall surrounding a beautifully cultivated park in the street named after Marek at the crossing of Igmándi Street. There is a five-line inscription in Hungarian on the relief (József Marek (1868-1952) Master of veterinarians of the world), as well as a profile portrait of Professor Marek looking to the left. A memorial session was organized in the town hall of Komárom on the occasion of the monument's unveiling, on the 12th of June 1981, in which not only the local organizations, but alsothe representatives of the University of Agriculture and Food, and the University of Veterinary Science were present. The ceremonial speaker of the memorial session was Dénes Karasszon DVM, assitant professor, who presented József Marek's figure in the light of veterinary ethics. After the ceremonial session the participants adjourned to the nearby park, where the relief was inaugurated by Dezső Sterczer, chief veterinarian, head of the Komárom County Animal Health Station.
