Béla Tormay (1839-1906) was an agronomist, veterinarian, counsellor of the minister, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of Animal Breeding from 1873 to 1888, director of the Hungarian Royal Veterinary College from 1875 to 1888, lecturer in obstetrics and reproductive biology (1875-1882). He was a great pioneer of Hungarian animal breeding, animal health and agriculture.
His portrait in oil, made by Bertalan Székely, can be found in the Department of Nuntrition. A coloured photo reproduction can be found in the director's room of the Animal Health and Food Control Station in Szekszárd. (MMJ)
