Béla Tormay (1839-1906) was an agronomist, veterinarian, counsellor of the minister, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of Animal Breeding from 1873 to 1888, director of the Hungarian Royal Veterinary College from 1875 to 1888, lecturer in obstetrics and reproductive biology (1875-1882). He was a great pioneer of Hungarian animal breeding, animal health and agriculture.
On the 19th of November, 1966, on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the death of Béla Tormay there was a ceremonial session at the University of Veterinary Science. The memorial speech was delivered by Professor József Márkus, then Gábor Soós, deputy minister of agriculture unveiled the bronze bust of Béla Tormay in the Park. It is the creation of Jenő Grantner.
