Béla Tormay (1839-1906) was an agronomist, veterinarian, counsellor of the minister, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of Animal Breeding from 1873 to 1888, director of the Hungarian Royal Veterinary College from 1875 to 1888, lecturer in obstetrics and reproductive biology (1875-1882). He was a great pioneer of Hungarian animal breeding, animal health and agriculture.
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the death of Béla Tormay, the Animal Health and Food Control Station of Tolna County organized a scientific memorial session, and an exhibition in honour of the famous son of Szekszárd on the 11th of December, 1996. On this occasion a relief was made to immortalize Béla Tormay by László Juhos, and was placed on the headquarters of the station. The relief was unveiled by the major of Szekszárd, Imre Antal Kocsis. The activity of professor Tormay was appreciated by Professor Jenő Kováts. (MMJ)
